MrBackup saves the day! 😉
Two recent recovery requests highlight the importance of having an effective, regular backup procedure, and taking backups off-site.
The Crashed Server
This business had MrBackup in place.
A small professional firm suffered disastrous data loss when their Desktop computer used for their financial software failed. The motherboard suffer severe damage after a power outage, which resulted in damage to the Hard Disk Drive. It was only after the local IT Technician had placed the HDD into a new computer, that it become apparent that the HDD was damaged to the extent that business continuity would not be possible.
This required a full clean software installation for all the relevant vendors, with data restoration from the MrBackup data vault.
MrBackup was the only backup of the data in question. All user data on the computer that was included in the MrBackup profile, was restored.
The existence of a good backup made restoration of the system easy.
Another 100% successful data restore for MrBackup!
The Stolen Backup External Hard Drive
This business did not have an off site data solution in place.
A small professional firm with offices in a suburban office block was vandalized during a break in.
In addition to the wanton damage to property, the LAN infrastructure was destroyed, simply ripped out of the walls. The computer used as a server was stolen.
The business owner, a dynamic young lady, appreciates the importance of regular, versioned backups and kept an External Hard Disk drive in the office on which frequent backups were made.
During the assessment process, it was discovered that the External Hard Disk Drive used for backups had also been stolen. No other backups were available. There was no off site data vault to restore data from. It was necessary to recover data from other sources, such as paper files and hard copy invoices.
No good backup meant that no restore could take place and disaster recovery processes were initiated.
The business was left with no live data, and no backups!
A software install was performed on a new computer. Now the business had a new, working computer, with software, and no data.
By a stroke of luck, the business owner discovered an old backup, made some thirteen months previously. This data was subsequently restored to the system, leaving a massive one year void with no operational, financial or management data. The gap had to be filled with data recovery from secondary sources and rework.
They have since implemented MrBackup.
